The Melbourne Tigers have started the 2nd half of the season off with a bang sweeping last weekend’s trip down in Tasmania.
They have now won 3 in a row and will come home to Oakleigh Rec. Centre for a rematch against Diamond Valley. These 2 teams met back in Round 4 where Diamond Valley came away with the victory at home 66 – 63, giving former Women’s coach Zoe Carr the 1st win against her old side. When the 2 sides met, Melbourne was without league leading scorer Rebecca Cole who was away on National 3×3 duties. This time she will be playing and keen to help the Tigers get over the line.
In their previous match up Monique Conti had 22 points and 10 rebounds for the Tigers and Peri Kalka added 10 points for the only 2 players to score in double figures. Melbourne will need to slow Ezi Magbegor who had 22 points, 8 rebounds and 3 steals in their last game. They will also need to keep an eye on Lauren Scherf who was the Player of the Week for last round after averaging 25.5 points, 15 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1.5 blocks in their 2 victories.
Melbourne are currently in 6th spot trying to secure their playoff spot while Diamond Valley sit in 9th about half a game behind 7th and 8th. With the return of Rebecca Cole, the Tigers will be confident, but Diamond Valley are a dangerous team who are hunting a playoff berth in their maiden season. Should be an exciting battle between the 2 sides.
