The Melbourne Tigers registered their first win for 2018 over the Albury-Wodonga Lady Bandits on Saturday evening at the Oakleigh Recreation Centre in convincing fashion.
Melbourne blew Albury-Wodonga away early as they opened a 25 – 8 lead in the opening 8 minutes of the 1st quarter before the Lady Bandits closed the quarter on a 9 – 2 run to trail 27 – 17.
Albury-Wodonga stayed within reach of Melbourne at halftime with the Tigers up by 7 but that would be the closest the Lady Bandits would get for the rest of the night as Melbourne outscored their opposition by 15 points in the 3rd quarter to take a 73 – 51 lead into the last break. From there the Tigers pushed their lead a bit further to finally close out the game winning 87 – 58.
The Tigers had all 5 starters in double figure points with Rebecca Cole leading the way with 25 points and 3 steals and Monique Conti added 20 points, 9 rebounds and 2 steals. Kasey Burton had 12 points while Peri Kalka chipped in with 10 points. Louella Tomlinson was once again a handful for the opposition talls as she scored 12 points, grabbed 14 rebounds and had 6 blocks.
